Children’s Advocacy Center: Building trust and communication with children

Jesse talks to Lieutenant Rebeckah Lynch, a detective in the Pittsburg Police Department who specializes in child abuse cases.

She says her main approach to talking to child abuse victims is making sure they feel comfortable and safe.

Lieutenant Lynch encourages parents to talk with their kids about their body and their safety. She thinks it’s important to give kids the tools and terms they need to properly explain any problems they may have. It also helps build trust, understanding, and communication between a child and supervising adult
