Cherokee County Candidate Forums Planned

Together with the Chambers of Commerce in Baxter Springs and Columbus, the Cherokee County Economic Development Corporation will host two candidate forums in October with the purpose of providing voters with additional opportunities to meet and hear from candidates for county office prior to the November 8th general election. Candidates for commissioner, clerk, treasurer, register of deeds, county attorney, and sheriff have been invited to participate in the forum(s) of their choice.

The first event will be held at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, October 18th at the Columbus Community Building, 320 E. Maple, Columbus. The second will be held at 6:30 pm on Thursday, October 20th at the Baxter Springs Community Building, 1101 East Ave., Baxter Springs. Each will include opening statements by candidates followed by questions solicited from the public.

Questions are key to the success of the events, and the Economic Development Corporation is seeking yours. Questions may be geared toward a specific candidate or a race: for example, you can ask all the commission candidates about a specific issue; or you can ask an individual candidate about his or her stand on a particular topic. The questions will be gathered in advance and must be received by the close of business on Friday, October 14th. No live audience questions will be allowed during the forums.
