Carthage Police investigate homicide, search for suspect

A man was pronounced dead on the scene and a woman who sustained a gunshot wound was sent to a local hospital, but is in stable condition.

UPDATE: Carthage Police released an update at 7:50 PM that the suspect, 29-year old Lane Stephens was last seen wearing a green sleeveless shirt and carrying a blue backpack after being dropped off in Lamar, Missouri near the Lamar Lake.

UPDATE: The white 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe was located north of Carthage at Civil War Road and Pine, abandoned. Police say the suspect is still at large.

CARTHAGE, Mo. – The Carthage Police Department is investigating a homicide and searching for the suspect.

At around 10:56 A.M. officers responded to the Quality Inn on 2701 S. Hazel Street in Carthage for reported gunshots in a hotel room.

Two victims were found.

A man was pronounced dead on the scene and a woman who sustained a gunshot wound was sent to a local hospital, but is in stable condition.

Police say the suspect 29-year old Lane Stephens, a white male, was last seen in a stolen white 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe with Missouri license plate 2kbh01.

Authorities say the suspect is armed and dangerous, and if anyone has any information to his whereabouts to call 911.
