Robert Waite is sentenced for a 2015 murder

On March 5th, 2019, a Lawrence County, Missouri judge sentenced Robert Waite to 30 years in prison. Waite pleaded guilty in December of 2018 to shooting Kevin Stafford.

The shooting happened on August 9th, 2015. According to court documents, Stafford initially called police saying Waite’s daughter had items that were stolen from him.

Police say Stafford was in a relationship with Waite’s daughter about a year prior to the incident.

Court documents state that Waite was enraged and headed to Mount Vernon where he shot Stafford with a handgun he kept in his car.

Carthage Police arrested Waite who “stated that he had shot Kevin Stafford and that the gun was in his vehicle,” according to documents.

The Prosecutor’s Office filed charges of first degree murder and armed criminal action against Waite.

In December of 2018, Waite took a plea deal that lessened his charges to second degree murder.
