Carthage homicide suspect arrested in Lamar

CARTHAGE, Mo. – The Lamar Police Department released at 8:00 A.M August 2nd, they located and arrested 29-year old Lane J. Stephens, the suspect of a homicide in Carthage Missouri on Saturday, August 1st. The arrest was with the help from the Missouri Highway Patrol, Barton County Sheriff’s Office, Barton County Ambulance District, and members of the Lamar First Christian Church,

Police say Stephens did fight with officers during the arrest. Officer John Simpson was cut twice with a knife but his injuries were minor. He was treated at a local hospital, but is being released.

Carthage Police Department also released the names of the victims who were involved in the shooting.

The male shooting victim, Don Pierce, 43 years old of Carthage. Pierce was pronounced dead on scene.

And the female shooting victim, Toni Stephens, 25 years old of Carthage. Police say she has been treated and released from a local hospital.
