Caney Valley’s Kaminska named 2X Gatorade Kansas Baseball Player of the Year
Jace Kaminska has earned Player of the Year honors for the second straight season.
Caney Valley High School standout Jace Kaminska has been named the Gatorade Kansas Baseball Player of the Year for the second straight year.
“I was actually asleep. My dad got the email at 7 AM and then came in and woke me up and told me,” Kaminska says of how he found out he had been awarded the honor, “I thought it was really cool to get it twice.”
Kaminska is a 2X 1st team All-State selection. In 2019 he posted a state-record 0.00 ERA and had a stretch of 32 straight strikeouts. He also has a 4.0 GPA.
However, he didn’t get to play out his senior year this season due to COVID-19.
“I wanted to take a shot at some other records. It’s a bummer not to play, but it doesn’t hurt me as much,” Kaminska adds, “I have four more years, and a lot of kids don’t have that option. Watching your buddies and stuff, and that was it for them, it makes you really thankful for that opportunity.”
Kaminska has signed to play at Division I Wichita State next season. He’s excited to get to Wichita and start working to try to land a spot in the Shockers’ rotation.
“That’s goal number one, to be a weekend starter,” Kaminska finishes, “That’s something I’ll have the chance to do. I can’t wait. I’m ready to throw. I’m just kind of tied up in the house right now.”
Kaminska is hoping to get to play some summer ball in the next couple months..before joining the Wichita State program.
