Candlelight vigil honors girls on 20th anniversary of their disappearance
Nearly 100 people gathered in Vinita, Oklahoma to honor the 20th anniversary of the disappearance of Ashley Freeman and Lauria Bible. A candlelight vigil was held to honor the girls.
It was this day, in 1999 that Danny and Kathy Freeman were murdered, their home in Welch, Oklahoma burned to the ground, and their daughter, Ashley Freeman, and her friend, Lauria Bible, went missing. Ronnie Busick is charged in the 1999 disappearance of Ashley and Lauria and the murder of Ashley’s parents. A competency hearing was held two weeks ago and a jury determined he was competent to stand trial in the case.
Tonight, friends and family gathered at South Park in Vinita and held a candlelight vigil and remembrance ceremony for the girls, whose remains still haven’t been found. Lorene Bible, Lauria’s mom says “Everyday is a step closer, you know they told us at the beginning you’re just one phone call away, it’s just what’s it gonna make that person pick up the phone.”
Investigators do have new information they’re going over, and using some new guidelines they’ve reviewed 400 mineshafts in the Picher area and feel they’ve narrowed it down to four potential locations of the girls bodies.
For now, investigators continue to urge anyone with any information to contact the OSBI and remind you that you can remain anonymous.
