VERNON COUNTY, Mo. –  Vernon County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a man accused of burglarizing a local business.

On May 21, officers responded to a report regarding a suspicious person near the area of Walnut Street in Deerfield, MO.

Police say they noticed a broken window at a nearby local business while investigating the scene.

Not long after, deputies received a call that claimed there was a man acting suspiciously near the local post office.

When officers arrived, they found Jeffery Carter, 38, in possession of items stolen from the previous business.

Documents show the prosecutor’s office filed Burglary, Stealing, and 2nd Degree Property Damage charges.

Deputies are now holding Carter at the Vernon County Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
