Bone fragments found in Parsons identified as human

Parsons Police Department Starts Initiative To Cut Down On Holiday Thefts

PARSONS, Kan. – The KBI identifies bone fragments found in Parsons, Kansas as part of a human skull.

On Feb. 1, 2021, around 3:40 a.m., a Parsons Police Officer got a tip about bone fragments near 1100 South 13th Street. Officers went to the area and found them, determining they looked human in origin.

Authorities searched the area and didn’t find any other remains. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI), along with the Parsons Police Department’s Investigations Division, interviewed multiple people.

A scientist with the KBI identified the fragments as part of a human skull. KBI and Parsons investigators are working together to identify the remains through a DNA analysis.

Taskforce Commander Kyle Wiford said, “I appreciated the flow of tips that have come to the agency and we continue to validate every lead and tip that we receive. I have also seen the social media rumors of a severed head being found. This may be part of a human skull, but the thought of a severed head leads the public to think the most gruesome and worst-case scenario. That is not the case in this situation. Please keep the information flowing to our agency if you know of anything.”

If anyone has information about this incident or any other criminal activity, call the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at

Authorities did arrest one Parsons resident while conducting questioning in the area on an unrelated charge.
