Body found in southeast Kansas identified as Pittsburg woman

OPOLIS, Kan. – Authorities identify the body found in Opolis as Brandi S. Moore, 35, of Pittsburg.

According to Crawford County Sheriff Danny Smith, a call came in on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2020, shortly before 8:00 a.m. about a body in a ditch.

Smith says preliminary external examination of Moore’s body by the pathologist indicates her injuries are consistent with being hit by a vehicle. A completed autopsy and official cause of death are pending.

Authorities have not determined the identity of the driver or vehicle yet. Smith says Moore died somewhere between 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, and 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22. The incident happened on Walnut Street between 2nd and 3rd Street, east of the Opolis City Park.

Opolis is near the Kansas/Missouri State line north of K171.
