Body found in Lake Fort Scott; believed to be missing teen

FORT SCOTT, Kan. — The Fort Scott Police Department says a body was recovered from Lake Fort Scott on September 14. It is believed to be 19-year-old Raymond Harper of Fort Scott. Harper went missing on September 13 while kayaking on the lake. Harper’s friends say they found his kayak but he was not with it. Multiple agencies searched the lake on the 13th, including the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Department and an Air Methods helicopter. The search was stopped at 1:15 a.m. on the 14th and was restarted in the morning. Kansas Highway Patrol joined the search, as well as the Overland Park Police Department Dive Team and the Newton County Dive Team. At 1:53 p.m. on the 14th, the body of a white male was recovered from the lake. Officials believe the body is Harper’s. The body was sent to Frontier Forensics for an autopsy to confirm the identity.
