Blackout Day: movement urges shopping local at Black-owned businesses
Tuesday is #BlackOutDay2020, an economic protest calling on Black Americans to not spend a single cent. If they do, they’re urged to spend their money at a Black-owned business.
The idea behind the economic protest is for Black Americans to showcase their combined economic might. According to CBS, Black Americans spent more than $1 trillion on consumer goods in 2018 alone.
Another goal of the movement is to confront institutional racism. The movement aims to force politicians and the business world to end institutional racist policies and practices.
Joplin for Justice released today a list of Joplin businesses owned by people of color, click here for the list.
