As the first installment of a $100,000 pledge first announced in May, Active Lifestyle Events Inc. presented a $40,000 check to Bill & Virginia Leffen Center for Autism, an entity of Ozark Center, the behavioral health division of Freeman Health System. Audie Dennis, Active Lifestyle Events Inc. President, presented the check to Paula F. Baker, Freeman President and Chief Executive Officer, and Kristy Parker, Bill & Virginia Leffen Center for Autism Clinical Director. The funds, raised through the Joplin Memorial Marathon, will be used to construct a playground at the new Bill & Virginia Leffen Center for Autism. The original building was destroyed in the 2011 Joplin tornado. The new center, currently under construction, is expected to open later this year.
