Bicyclist dies after being hit on I-49 in southwest Missouri
NEWTON COUNTY, Mo. – Authorities say a Neosho man is dead after a car hit his bicycle on I-49 in southwest Missouri.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 9:25 p.m. on April 5, 2020, about three miles north of Neosho.
Authorities say a car hit bicyclist Michael L. Linton, 51, of Neosho, from behind. Both were traveling north. Linton died at the scene.
Sergeant John Lueckenhoff says Linton was in the left lane with no lights. He says on interstates, it’s illegal for bicyclists to ride in the lane of traffic, unless there is absolutely no shoulder. Luekenhoff says that was not the case here, there was a shoulder.
