A Bates County fugitive is in custody after trying to fight deputies Monday evening. According to Sheriff’s Office officials, Christopher L Foster, 31 of Butler was taken into custody after deputies found him in a house on the 400 block of N Elm in Nevada. According to the press release, Deputies kicked open the door to a locked room and found Foster hiding in a closet with a shotgun.

“He failed to comply with the orders of the Deputies and then tried to escape while they were placing him in hand cuffs” said Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher.

The Sheriff said Officers with the Nevada Police Department were also on scene and helped the Deputies detain Foster as he was trying to get away. Foster is being held in the Vernon County Jail and may now face additional charges of resisting arrest, and felon in possession of a firearm.

The Sheriff said no one was hurt during the incident and contributed that fact to the efforts of both agencies working together.
