Area organizations are cancelling events due to COVID-19. Here are a few sent to KOAM:

Shoal Creek Conservation Education Center in Joplin

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) announces it will close its nature centers, visitor centers, and education centers around the state to visitors effective Thursday, March 19, to help protect the public amid ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns. The indoor facilities will be closed to the public through April 15 and MDC will reassess the situation at that point. Nature center trails remain open.


George Washington Carver National Monument Homeschool Days

Dear Homeschool Educators,

Homeschool Days have been cancelled until further notice. Please note, we will not be hosting the April 10th homeschool day. The visitor center will be closed beginning March 19th but the trails remain open. Please see the park Facebook page for further information. Thank you.


Joplin Family YMCA Healthy Kids Day

Based on local and federal concerns about group meetings of 50 or more people, we have decided to cancel Healthy Kids Day 2020.

The event was originally planned for the morning of April 4, 2020.

Joplin History &  Mineral Museum Closure

Due to the current health situation

As of March 18th, 2020 The museum will be closed to the public, all museum programs, tours, meetings have been suspended through April, 3rd.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the nationwide precautions to stem its severity, Stone’s Throw Dinner Theatre regretfully announces the cancellation of all events, including the upcoming production of Marc Camoletti’s Boeing-Boeing, originally scheduled for May 8-10 & 15-17.  We hope to reschedule the show in the future.

We appreciate the understanding and support of our patrons and community, and extend our best wishes as we all work together to see our way through this crisis.

Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce: With the concern of the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce is committed to supporting the local business community. Currently, our top priorities during this time are the health and wellness of our community. We have reviewed our upcoming events and have decided to reschedule Good Morning Joplin, which was scheduled for March 24, for June. Additionally, we have postponed our annual banquet until further notice. New dates for both events will be announced at another time.


Northpark Mall Regarding Planned Events and Easter Photo Operations: The health and well-being of the community we serve, our customers, employees, and retail partners is our top priority. Out of an abundance of caution and based on guidelines for public meetings and events from the CDC and other governmental agencies, we have made the decision to cancel or postpone all planned events, which includes our seasonal Easter Bunny photo program. We will continue to monitor updates from the CDC as well as local health officials and governmental agencies and will resume our event schedule as soon as it is appropriate.

Missouri State Parks: Out of caution, Missouri state park and historic site programs and events sponsored by Missouri State Parks are postponed or cancelled now through April 30. The team is closely monitoring the progression of COVID-19 and its effect in Missouri. While safety, stewardship and service are all very important to Missouri State Parks, safety is the top priority.

Missouri State Park visitor centers, campgrounds and lodging will remain open as we closely monitor COVID-19 and its presence in the state. We encourage all Missourians and park visitors to review information provided by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services as it relates to the virus.

Due to increasing concerns about COVID-19 and public events, Post Art Library (inside Joplin Public Library) has cancelled the following community-based events:
  • March 21, 2020: Coloring JOMO: Women Who Made Their Mark Coloring Book Release Party at Joplin Public Library – CANCELLED
  • Friday, April 3, 2020: Open Mic Poetry Night with Connect2Culture and Pub Hound Press at Joplin Empire Market – CANCELLED
  • April 11, 2020: Literally Design Reception at Joplin Public Library – CANCELLED

Silver Dollar City – Silver Dollar City delays season opening until March 28

Arma Council Meetings: Beginning March 16 at the council meeting, the City of Arma’s council meeting will be limited to essential city officials and personnel only and the meeting will be livestreamed via the Facebook page “Eye on Arma” and comments will be monitored and upon request read during the public comment. Additionally, a conference call line will also be available to those without internet access or the means to stream the meeting can participate via telephone by calling 1-515-604-9965. Please follow the prompts and use access code 111349. There will be prompts to participate and the line should accommodate up to 1000 participants if necessary. This will only be used on a limited basis during this type of emergency and not available upon the City’s return to normal meeting practices.

City of Nevada closures:

The Franklin P. Norman City/County Community Center, Frank E. Peters Municipal Golf Course, and Marmaduke Community Building will be CLOSED thru April 5th, 2020. All scheduled programs and rental are canceled during this timeframe.

Rodeo Miami 2020 DELAYED:

Rodeo Miami officials announced today that the 2020 event will be moved to August 27-29. The original date of May 1-2 will fall into the critical dates of social distancing recommended by the CDC in response to COVID-19. For the safety of our fans, contestants and organizers, we feel this new date will be beneficial to everyone.
