April D. Semrad

July 25, 1974 - November 13, 2022

April D Semrad

On Saturday, November 12, 2022, April Semrad, of Galesburg, loving wife and mother of three, passed from this life into the arms of her savior at the age of 48. Our beloved April was born on July 25, 1974, in Parsons, Kansas, to David and Patsy (Baker) Peterson. She was the third of four children. Her siblings, Kim, Lance, and Holly, were her first best friends. Their childhood in rural Parsons was a happy and formative one. April attended Erie Public Schools from kindergarten to twelfth grade. She went on to study at Pittsburg State University and received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. In 2008, she added a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. She taught early elementary grades of kindergarten, first, or second grades for nearly 20 years in Altoona, Thayer, Galesburg, and Erie, before becoming a principal for Erie Elementary in 2013-2014. On June 5, 1993, April married her high school and youth group sweetheart, David Semrad. They built a beautiful life together with their three children, Morgan, Wyatt, and Avery. April loved these four with her whole heart. They were her greatest joy in this life.

April was passionate about teaching and was so very gifted with children. She was an advocate for every learner, but had a special place in her heart for kids with special needs. She fought for the underdog. April was creative and did everything with excellence. She was a member of the Galesburg Christian Church her whole life and whatever project she was in charge of, she made sure it was done well whether it was VBS or children’s church. The church felt a huge loss when April could no longer serve in her usual ways. April had a fantastic sense of humor and loved a good joke. April was a worker bee and always up to something, whether it be for home, school, or church. Sitting idly was not her thing, unless it was to watch a Lifetime Movie. April was also a natural leader, who liked to take charge and get things done. April was radiantly beautiful, in such a natural way. Her red hair often set her apart. But it was her feisty, persistent, stubborn spirit that carried her through her hardest days.

April was preceded in death by her mother, Patsy Peterson. Survivors include her faithful husband, David Semrad, of the home, her daughter, Morgan Stark and her husband Isaac, of Galesburg, her two sons, Wyatt Semrad of Galesburg, and Avery Semrad of the home, and her brand new grandson, Ezra David Stark. She is also survived by her father, David Peterson, of Galesburg, her siblings Kim Williams (and Brian) of Malvern, PA, Lance Peterson (and Kari) of Sapulpa, OK, and Holly Clevenger (and Derek) of Galesburg, KS, as well as 15 nieces and nephews.

A closed casket Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 2:00 pm at the Galesburg Christian Church. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, November 16, from 6:30-8:00 pm at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons. Any memorials are suggested to the Galesburg Christian Church and these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home 112 N. 26th St., P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357.
