Some 200 piano students perform for friends and family in recitals to honor the late Lois Williamson-Bellm.

Pianists ages five to eighteen showcased their talents at Forest Park Baptist church in Joplin.

Guests also paused to remember Williamson, whose family owned the local Ernie Williamson Music store for more than sixty years.

Practicing for recitals not only helps students perform but will help them succeed later in life.

“There’s studies out that piano helps with memory and concentration. It’s good to get in the habit of practicing so it’s good to learn a discipline, any discipline and just develop good habits,” says Joplin Piano Teacher’s Association Program Chair Megan Sabo.

All the students participating are honor students, and had to perform in several previous productions to be able to play today.
