Alice “Joanne” Coulter

Alice “Joanne” Coulter, 90, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away on February 16, 2022, at Oakview Estates in Frontenac, Kansas. Joanne was born on November 19, 1931, at Pittsburg, KS, the daughter of John “Jack” and Zeffie (Clayton) Turner. She was raised in Pittsburg and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1949. On February 11, 1950, she was united in marriage to Galen Williams. He preceded her in death on January 11, 1985. She later married William Kenneth Coulter on May 9, 1987. He preceded her in death on January 19, 2020.

Joanne was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved the home that she and Galen built in 1954. Joanne enjoyed spending precious time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved reading to them and singing novelty songs and nursery rhymes. She was active in many Bible studies and enjoyed hosting them in her home. She also taught Bible study at Sunset Manor for many years. After Galen passed away, she reluctantly became the landlord for their nineteen rental homes and successfully managed them for almost twenty years. She was raised in the Methodist Church and attended Open Door Fellowship in her later years.

Survivors include a daughter, Gail McClaskey of Pittsburg, KS; a son, Curt (Mary Pat) Williams of Grove, OK; three step-sons, Rodney (Eileen) Coulter of Gillette, Wyoming, Curt (Carolyn) Coulter of Kennewick, Washington, and Brent (Renee) Coulter of Pittsburg; grandchildren, Heather Boline (Kevin), Amber Slaughter (Jason), Beth Ballenger (Ryan), Ty Williams (Jami), and step grandchildren, Amber Taylor (Kelly), Ashley Thorson (Clayton), Allie Blair (Justin), Chad Coulter, Rebecca Coulter, Emily Hamilton (Trent), Joel Rhodes (Jeanie); great grandchildren, Megan and Brett Boline, Elle and Breck Slaughter, Bailey Ballenger, Sam, Sally, and Susie Williams, and several step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Galen Williams, and husband, William Kenneth Coulter.

A service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday (February 19) at the Open Door Fellowship Church with Pastor Don Talent officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. The family suggests memorials be given to Open Door Fellowship Church and/or the S.E.K Humane Society.
