CHANUTE, Kan. – The Chanute Police Department investigates aggravated assault against a woman and three kids.

On Sunday, June 28, 2020 around 4:00 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of South Highland for a domestic disturbance. When authorities got to the home, an adult female and three kids from inside the house met officers outside.

Officers learned there was a man still inside armed with a shotgun. According to the Police Department, the woman mentioned that the man had threatened the four of them with the firearm when they were inside.

Police set up a perimeter and tried to make contact with the man inside. Authorities contacted the Kansas Bureau of Investigation HRWT team for assistance.

After a short period of time, authorities say the 30-year-old Chanute resident came outside and turned himself into law enforcement peacefully. They arrested him for four counts of aggravated assault and domestic battery and took him to the Neosho County Jail.

The Chanute Police Department states additional charges could be requested after a search warrant for the home is executed.

“The investigation is still ongoing at this time. Upon completion, reports will be forwarded to The Neosho County Attorney’s Office for review and consideration of charges being filed. All suspects are presumed innocent, unless and until proven guilty in a court of law,” stated the Chanute Police Department.
