Hurricane Lane August 21st 4 PM Advisory

A look at the Tropics on this August 21st has one particular storm we’re keeping a close eye on. The Atlantic Basin doesn’t have any activity and no tropical systems are expected to develop over the next 5 days. Over in the eastern Pacific, we don’t have any active waves and no tropical waves are anticipated over the next 5 days.

While the waters close to North America may be calm, there is one Major Hurricane out in the central Pacific. From the Central Pacific Hurricane Center’s 4 PM CST Advisory today, Hurricane Lane is a strong Category 4 storm with maximum wind speeds of 155 mph and a minimum central pressure of 929 millibars. The latest forecast indicates that Lane shouldn’t become a Category 5 Hurricane. With that said, it will maintain major hurricane status as we head through Thursday. With the forecast track shifting a little more northward over the next few days, the cone does clip the islands of Oahu, Maui and Kauai going into the coming weekend. That’s why the islands of Hawaii, Maui and Oahu are under Hurricane Watches. We’ll keep a close eye on Hawaii over the next several days.
