A Joplin family refiles a lawsuit in federal court in connection with the suicide death of their daughter. Brooke Russell was 16 years old when she shot herself in a Joplin park last year. The family alleges two Joplin officers assaulted family members as the family attempted to get medical attention for the teen. The two officers named in the suit are Austin Wolf and Tyler Christensen. Last month a judge dismissed a similar lawsuit filed against the Joplin Police Department, saying the department as a whole could not be sued. The current suit is against the City of Joplin and the officers specifically involved, those officers are still employed by the city. The officers are named in 11 counts including battery, negligence and false arrest.
