Weather plays role in fatal pedestrian crash on US69 in Bourbon County

BOURBON COUNTY, Kan. – Authorities say it was a pedestrian that was hit and killed in an early morning crash on US 69 in Bourbon County.

The crash happened around 4:40 a.m. on Feb. 26 near the Bourbon-Crawford County line.

According to the crash report, an SUV driving north on US 69 slid into the grassy median due to icy conditions. The vehicle then went airborne and hit John R. Morris, who was outside of his vehicle.

Morris, 48, of Liberal, Missouri, died at the scene.

The driver of the SUV had “no apparent injury” according to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash report.

Law enforcement diverted all Northbound traffic to K-7 Highway. They have since re-opened all lanes.

Local fire departments, the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Bourbon County Sheriff responded to the crash.
