A chance to shred documents to prevent identity theft

A Joplin bank is providing an opportunity for Four Staters to shred away the chance of having their identity stolen.

On Wednesday Arvest Bank brought in a company called Iron-Wood Shredding.

People unloaded boxes and bags full of personal documents such as phone bills, electric bills, and papers with their social security numbers on them.

Although the Iron-Wood shred truck is in the repair shop, residents were given a receipt saying their documents would be destroyed as soon as the truck is up and running.

Joplin police say events like this help minimize the chance of becoming a victim, and participants say it gives them peace of mind.

There will be another chance to make it to the Shred-A-Thon on Friday in Pittsburg. It’ll be at the Arvest Bank on Broadway from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
