4th of July celebrations continue with restrictions, families still excited about MSSU fireworks show

Because of COVID-19, the stadium itself will be closed to those in attendance instead MSSU parking lots will be open for people to enjoy the fireworks in the comfort of their own cars.

JOPLIN, Mo. – While celebrations for the fourth of July may look different this year…it isn’t stopping people from commemorating the day.

For Keaton Johnston, he and his family picked up some last minute fireworks at Military Fireworks in Joplin.

“My plans are to go to my grandparents and shoot off some fireworks and then go watch the show at Southern.”

Missouri Southern State Universities firework show is a highly anticipated event each year…but things are different this time around because of COVID-19.

“I think with everything going on its super smart and a great idea and it’ll still be a blast and a great show to watch” added Johnston.

Because of COVID-19, the stadium itself will be closed to those in attendance instead MSSU parking lots will be open for people to enjoy the fireworks in the comfort of their own cars.

“My grandparents live right by it, so we go to their house and watch it in the front yard” said Johnston.

And while some like Keaton will be watching from afar, others will be on site.

All amenities are closed off to those in attendance as well, making it a fireworks only show.

And though many are celebrating differently…the same excitement is still there.

“Probably seeing family and then shooting off some fireworks” added Johnston.
