4-Staters flock to the pool in Joplin
JOPLIN, Mo. – Plenty of 4-Staters spent Sunday having some fun in the sun and staying cool by the pool, over at the Schifferdecker Aquatic Center.
There was a good crowd composed of both locals and out of town visitors, but not so many that the aquatic center hit capacity.
But anybody who felt like taking a dip was limited to the center’s lazy river since the main lap pool was shut down.
The big pool was closed because the Schifferdecker Aquatic Center is experiencing a lifeguard shortage, so the lifeguards on deck focused their efforts on keeping the lazy river safe since it’s a bit more popular.
“So it’s really late in the year and not very many lifeguards are wanting to show up. They’re looking for jobs for winter before the summer ends. So we’ve opened up the lazy river because that’s all the guards we have, that can watch the water for us,” said lifeguard Corey Gouge.
The last day for swimming at the Schifferdecker Aquatic Center is Labor Day, September 7th.
