4-State firefighters fire up some smokin’ hot chili

Four-State firefighters and local businesses came together in Joplin on Saturday for a friendly competition to benefit families struggling during the holiday season.

Dozens of participants entered their dishes in the Second Annual Firefighters Chili Cook Off.

For a dollar, taste testers could cast a vote for their favorite chilis.

All proceeds go to the Joplin Professional Fire Fighters charitable foundation which makes Christmas merrier for local kids.

“It brings us together to do something fun away from the job and actually talk a little trash on each other, but just have some really good chili and raise money and have fun while we’re doing it,” said Jeremie Humphrey, president of the Joplin Professional Firefighters Union.

This year, the Joplin Fire Department added a car show to the fundraiser.
