4 injured, 1 dead after crash north of Oronogo

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. – A single-vehicle crash claims the life of one person and seriously injures four others.

The crash happened Sunday, June 13, around 2:00 a.m. on Kafir Road (2 miles north of Oronogo) in Jasper County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a minivan was going East when it went off the right side of the road, back over the center line, overcorrected and hit a tree. There were five Carthage residents in the van.

EMS took 20-year-old Brenda Lopez Escobar, 21-year-old Aracely Mejia and 24-year-old Gladys Oxlath to Mercy hospital in Joplin. Emergency workers took Saul Irahate, age “unknown”, to Freeman West in Joplin. They all had serious injuries, according to the crash report.

Authorities say Victor Alexandrios, age “unknown” in report, died at the scene. The crash report states that he was wearing a seatbelt.
