29th Annual Midwestern Open showcases 4-State karate talent

The 29th Annual Midwestern Open kicked its way through Joplin Memorial Hall on Saturday.

Contestants of all ages could be seen gearing up for their matches, hoping to emerge a karate champ.

The event featured karate competitors from beyond the 4-State area. One contestant even came all the way from Ohio.

The tournament organizer says that putting something together for kids willing to learn and work hard makes it all worth it.

The North American Sport Karate Association now has 15 world tour tournaments along with national and state tournaments.
