2-year-old dies in Joplin child abuse case, investigation ongoing
JOPLIN, Mo. – 2-year-old Jameson Long, who was being treated for injuries, passes away at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Police have opened a child abuse case and arrested one man.
On May 31, 2020, around 9:32 a.m., Joplin Police Officers were sent to the 1900 block of east 8th Street for a 2-year-old boy not conscious and not breathing. Responding officers started life saving measures when they got there. EMS then took the boy to a local hospital. He was later taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment where he was listed in critical condition.
According to court documents, on or between April 1 through May 31, 2020, O’Grodnick abused the child. He is not the child’s biological father, according to the Joplin Police Department.
Investigators say at least four of the incidents were discovered on videos on O’Grodnick’s cell phone. Detective Dustin Moyer state in court documents that O’Grodnick admitted to making the videos and performing the abuse against the child after given his Miranda rights. The Probable Cause states, “In the videos [the child] is observed to have multiple bruises and scratches on his faces and chin and is crying and shaking.”
No bond has been set for O’Grodnick as of noon on June 3, 2020. Additional charges have not been filed at this time. The Joplin Police Department says the child abuse investigation is ongoing.
An autopsy on the boy will be scheduled. If you have any information about this case, you are asked to contact the Joplin Police Department at 417-623-3131.
