#2 Parsons looks to build on perfect start

The Vikings are 9-0 to start the season

PARSONS, Kan. – The Parsons Vikings have their best start under head coach Anthony Houk.  The Vikings are 9-0 on the year and ranked 2nd in the state in class 4A.

“If you’re talking about success, as far as a league title, no we haven’t got that yet.  We haven’t gotten one of those since I’ve been the head coach.  We’ve been to state a few times.  We want to keep playing on the that last day and make that last game,” says coach Houk.

Offensively, the Vikings have four guys averaging double-figures with Daquan Johnson leading the way with 16.8 ppg.

It’s not just scoring for this team.  Parsons drops a little over 20 assists per night with Dariq Williams dishing out more than 8 per night.

“My performance right now is just been finding the open teammate,” says Williams.

“A lot of teams we pass up good shots for great shots,” adds Zeke Lyons.

The Vikings have made it to the state tournament in each of the last two seasons, but have fallen short of a 4A title.

“We’re all ready. That’s the goal, number one, for us. I mean, that’s what we’re working here for,” says Pierce Thomas.

With their post-season experience, coach Houk says his team knows what it takes to be the last team standing.

“They know who beat us last year. And they know who was ranked above us. And I think they’ve matured and learned what it takes to stay there and that’s what we’re after. We want to stay there,” adds Houk.

The Vikings will be back on the floor Friday aiming for a 10-0 start at home against Fort Scott.
