2 arrested for drugs and child endangerment in Cherokee County

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Kan. – What started as a traffic stop in Cherokee County turns into an arrest for drugs, counterfeit money and child endangerment.

Authorities arrested two Parsons, Kansas residents and are requesting several felony charges against the couple.

On Tuesday, December 28, 2021, just before 7:00 pm, a Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop. They were north of Columbus on Kansas Highway 7.

As the vehicle stopped, the driver and passenger allegedly tried to change positions in the vehicle. According to the Sherriff’s Office, they determined the original driver had a suspended driver’s license.

During the stop, authorities say they found a “considerable amount of narcotics” including:

  • methamphetamine,
  • miscellaneous prescription drugs,
  • hallucinogenic mushrooms,
  • marijuana,
  • and drug paraphernalia consistent with the distribution of narcotics

The Parsons couple also had “nearly $2,000.00 in counterfeit currency,” according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

A child under the age of 10 was also in the vehicle.

Arrests and Allegations by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office

They arrested the 31-year-old male on allegations of:

  • Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Methamphetamine, Obtaining / Selling Prescription Drugs, Possession of Hallucinogens, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Counterfeiting Currency, Aggravated Child Endangerment and Driving While Suspended.

They also arrested the 24-year-old woman on allegations of:

  • Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Methamphetamine, Obtaining / Selling Prescription Drugs, Possession of Hallucinogens, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Aggravated Child Endangerment and Obstructing Justice.

According to court documents, the Prosecutor’s Office has not filed official charges as of 1:30 pm today (Dec. 29).
